March's Birthstone is Aquamarine, a beautiful light blue-green stone. A good quality Aquamarine will be clear, without visible flaws.

The name Aquamarine is derived from the Latin "beryllus aquamarinus", meaning to look like seawater and this gemstone is traditionally a sailor's tailsman. Some commercially available aquamarine is treated with heat which improves its color. This treatment does not affect the stone's strength, or value. Aquamarine & Emerald are both part of the beryl family of gemstones.

Please be watchful of jeweller's selling Brazilian Aquamarine, which is really Blue Topaz; Siam Aquamarine, really heat-treated Blue Zircon; and Mass Aqua, which is simply blue glass.
