September birthdays are represented by a Sapphire. Sapphires can be found in a rainbow of colors, except but red. (Red Sapphire is actually Ruby) There are also 'star sapphires' which are domed stones that show a star-light effect when viewed from above.

Sapphires are traditionally connected with the eyes and sky - with vision & precognition. Sapphires are said to render black magic harmless, and help the wearer detect lies. Buddhists believe the Sapphire develops purity & spiritual enlightenment.

Good quality sapphire is found in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and India. The Montana mines in the USA have produced some beautiful cornflower blue sapphires. Darker colored sapphire is mined in Thailand, Australia, and Nigeria. Other mines are in Brazil, Cambodia, Columbia, Kenya, and Malawi.
