Cubic Zirconia (or CZ) is a mineral that is rarely found in nature. A widely synthesized stone that is often used in the place of a diamond, Cubic Zirconia is hard, optically flawless and usually colourless, but can be bought in different colors. CZ should not be confused with zircon.

Because of its low cost, durability, and close visual likeness to diamond, synthetic cubic zirconia has remained the most gemologically and economically important diamond simulant since 1976. Its main competition as a synthetic gemstone is the more recently cultivated material moissanite.

To quickly check is your stone is Cubic Zirconia or Diamond, simply submerge the gem in water. CZ will all but disappear, whilst Diamond will remain easily visible.
